What is botox?
Botox is a neurotoxin that has numerous diverse medical and clinical uses. It is arguably most well-known for being an efficacious treatment for active facial lines and wrinkles, though it is also advantageous in treating overactive sweating glands, various bladder symptoms, and even migraines.
How Does Botox Work?
When injected into the face, Botox connects with specific formations in the nervous system to inhibit the muscles from constricting. As the muscles are unable to contract, so they rather recline, resulting in a softer expression on the facade. The most popular areas of attention that can be treated with Botox are Crow’s feet, Forehead, Glabella
Laugh lines, Frown lines, etc.
What to expect with Botox Injections?
- Neurotoxin takes only a few minutes to inject and doesn’t require anesthesia.
- Most patients may see improvement within a couple of days after the injection. however, it can take up to 2 weeks.
- Neurotoxin injection is not permanent; the results usually last about 3-4 months, but differs with everyone.
- Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible for a period of 2 weeks before treatment.
- Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Results from the injections will take approximately 4 to 7 days to appear. Also bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.
- Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area.
- Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
For the next 4 hours do not:
- Bend forward (squat instead).
- Lay down.
- Shower.
- Work out (no strenuous activity for 24 hours).
- Wash your face.
- Pull anything over your head (e.g. a hoodie).
- Wear a hat or headband around the forehead.
- Apply makeup.
